Spring Bird Walk in Anson B. Nixon Park Scheduled for Saturday, May 23 – 8:00 a.m.
Expert birders and novices alike are invited to search for warblers and other spring migratory birds as well as signs of nest building on Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 a.m. at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square.
Among the 39 species sighted during last year’s bird walk were orioles, towhees, warbling warblers, phoebes, redstart, and common yellowthroats. The park was also home to nesting Cooper’s Hawks in 2006.
Anson B. Nixon Park is located on the edge of Kennett Borough and Kennett Township. Its woodlands, with some specimens over 250 years old, are sought out by many species of birds traveling south for the season.
Bring binoculars if you have them to look and listen for these spring beauties. This early morning walk will last about 2 hours. Meet in the main parking lot off Waterworks Drive. There is no charge for the walk.
